How Building Hope is Transforming Communities Through Education
Building Hope is a nonprofit organization that supports high-quality public charter schools in Washington D.C., Florida, and other locations throughout the United States. By providing business services and technical and financial assistance for educational facilities, Building Hope catalyzes change across local public education systems and promotes school-centered community revitalization. At Building Hope, we believe that excellent charter school programs and facilities help transform economically depressed neighborhoods into places where children can thrive.
The Impact of Quality Charter Schools on Communities
Building Hope’s mission is to create great public schools for all students—especially those who come from disadvantaged communities. Research has shown that quality charter schools can have a positive impact on numerous factors in their surrounding communities, including economic growth, housing values, local businesses, neighborhood safety, and civic engagement.
For example, one study found that having a high-performing charter school nearby increased housing values by an average of 13%. Another study showed that homes located within half a mile of a top performing school realized an increase in value of up to 15%. The presence of these successful schools also correlates with increased civic engagement among parents. When parents are more involved in their children’s education through volunteering and participation in decision-making processes at the school level, they become more active citizens in their community as well.
How Building Hope Is Making Change Happen
At Building Hope, we understand the importance of quality public education for our most vulnerable communities. That’s why we work with local leaders to identify opportunities for expanding access to high-quality schools by providing business services and technical and financial assistance for educational facilities. We strive to be responsive to community needs by helping develop new models of education delivery as well as establish innovative ways to fund facilities for existing successful educational programs. We provide support for every part of the process, from program planning to facility construction or renovation projects.
Building Hope is committed to transforming economically depressed neighborhoods into vibrant learning communities through innovation in public education. We strongly believe that excellent charter school programs have the power to positively impact countless lives by creating safe spaces where children can learn and grow while simultaneously elevating the entire community around them. With our expertise in business services and technical assistance combined with our dedication to funding quality educational initiatives, we are confident that our efforts will continue making significant changes throughout U.S cities everywhere!
